Strength for Today

It’s been eight years since we have gotten up every 3 hours to take care of a baby. Obviously the joys of having another child outweigh any concern for things like that, but those kinds of tasks seem daunting when looking at them. “I don’t know if we could ever raise another baby,” some might say.

I suppose that was partly a concern for us as my wife and I both approach our 40’s. (Cough, maybe not her, but definitely me!) I’m usually tired as it is and can get cranky when I’m tired. But after having our son for almost 3 weeks now, it’s crazy how the Lord gives you strength for the tasks He has for you.

I’m reminded of the line from “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” that says, “Strength for today . . .” Lynsey and I have seen that to be true. God has given us the strength we need for each day. I’m not sure we have strength for tomorrow yet. But we have the strength we need for today, and that’s enough.

Don’t forget the gathering of manna that God had Israel do for 40 years. They were only to gather enough for one day at a time (excluding the day before the Sabbath). That had to have been a learning experience for them. They needed God every day. They needed to seek Him every day. “Strength for today,” the hymn goes.

It’s amazing what you find yourself doing with God’s strength one day at a time. Those things are things you might have said at one time, “I could never do that.” Well, yes you can–with His strength that He gives you for that day.

It’s not a question of whether or not we can do it. It’s a question of whether or not God can do it. Of course, He can. Is there anything too hard for the Lord?
