The Post-Covid Scramble

I’m near the end of doing year-end reviews with the staff here at Lake Hills. Talking to these wonderful servants has made me realize something for us as leaders–we’re in a post-Covid scramble.

Covid was a huge curveball for everyone–churches included. The “rules” went out the window. There is no longer a normal “how we do things.” Lake Hills went through that, like every church, with fear and trepidation and hopefully a lot of grace.

Now, Covid no longer has the world in a straight jacket, by God’s grace. But churches have decisions to make. Specifically, we have three options: (1) do we revert back to how we did things pre-covid, (2) continue to do things as we did during covid, or (3) do do things in a totally different way?

(Pause: some things churches do should always be the same–preaching, singing, fellowship, teaching, evangelism, etc. There are aspects of those things that don’t change and shouldn’t.)

But there are some things that do change. Let’s take voting as one example. How do you vote for things (like we did on the deacons last week) with a global pandemic? Lake Hills decided to vote online (mostly). That seemed to work well, so we continued it this time. But how did we do that last time? No one really knows! Add a new pastor to the mix and what you get is a staff and deacons that are scrambling a bit.

So, what I’m asking for from you all, Lake Hills, is in the midst of the post-covid scramble, extend some post-covid grace. Ask questions if you have some. Keep assuming the best about your leadership. We are here to serve the body and King Jesus together.

The Lord is going to work all of the post-covid stuff out. The staff and deacons are working hard for Him. And you are, too. We are going to heaven. Jesus is alive! And He is giving us growth as a church family. Let’s be “eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:3).

Your fellow servant,

Pastor Jacob
