What I’m about to say is more of a theory than something to take to the bank. But as I’ve been preaching about the armor of God at Lake Hills, I’m wondering if there’s a connection between the types of schemes of the Devil and the different pieces of armor God gives us. Here’s what I mean.
- God gives us the belt of truth because the Devil is a liar (John 8:44).
- God gives us the breastplate of righteousness because Satan is the accuser of the brethren (Revelation 12:10).
- God gives us the shoes of readiness given by the gospel of peace (that creates peace among people) because Satan seeks to sow division among God’s people (Ephesians 4:27-29).
- God gives us the shield of faith because Satan wants us to doubt His promises (Genesis 3:4).
- God gives us the helmet of salvation, assuring us of His victory regardless of our circumstances because Satan wants us to be afraid (Psalm 23:4).
I’m sure there’s some crossover between the pieces of armor, but I thought that was pretty cool. I was not expecting to see that connection before I started this sermon series.
But even more than that, I’m grateful how the Lord has used this series in the people of Lake Hills so far, and I’m looking forward to finishing the series with the sword of the Spirit this Sunday, February 16.
