What Does the Bible Say About Homosexual Behavior? A Simple List

It is “Pride Month” in our country. As people who “hold God’s Word as our highest authority for how we live and what we believe” (our church covenant), I thought it opportune to give a simple list of what Scripture says about homosexual behavior.

Homosexual behavior, according to God, is:

  1. Reason for judgment from God (Genesis 19:4b-5; Leviticus 20:13; Jude 1:7; Hebrews 13:4; 1 Thessalonians 4:6; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10).
  2. “Detestable” (Leviticus 18:22; 20:13).
  3. “Improper for God’s people” (Ephesians 5:3).
  4. “Impure” (1 Thessalonians 4:7).
  5. “Wicked” (Genesis 19:6).
  6. “Shameful” (Romans 1:26, 27).
  7. “Unnatural” (Romans 1:26).
  8. A sin “against their own body” (1 Corinthians 6:18).
  9. Something from which to “flee” (1 Corinthians 6:18).
  10. Something for which people can be “washed, sanctified” and “justified” (1 Corinthians 6:11).
  11. Not binding on a person’s identity (1 Corinthians 6:11–“that is what some of you were”).
  12. Controllable for those who belong to Jesus (1 Thessalonians 4:3-4).

May God help us believe and follow His Word with love for our neighbor, regardless of what others say or do.
